Lauren, who would have thought that grad school in Hawaii, a geoarchaeology seminar in this case, would bring a higher appreciation of all things 'home'. Such as, northern Indiana and the Great Lakes region, especially Minnesota, have been pivotal areas of paleoenvironmental and glaciation studies since the mid-twentieth century that helped to establish an American Pleistocene, one in which human habitations in the New World could be dated to the Ice Age as was being done in the Old. So when travelling to the dunes (and I am studying dune formation and chemical soil analyses, yahoo!), you keep in mind sister dear, the dynamic socio-political history of glaciers, whatever ridiculous Kurt Vonnegut says. Love and Miss You, Mo.
