I really like this. Not even necessarily for the miscommunication, but for the working-through, and for acknowledging that (a) sometimes both partners aren't into the same things and (b) sometimes "kinky" isn't as clear as people think. I also love that Rodney knows John better than John knows himself - the idea of John's inability to articulate even in his own head is a great one.

Yay for people talking about and actually discussing sex. Especially what they are and aren't comfortable with and *explaining* why or why not. A key step missing from many "kinky" fics. Which would help me actually be able to possibly read most of them, if I could understand *why* it's sexy or what the appeal is.

As it happens, I know a great many excellent kink writers whose stories often walk through negotiations and explanations, so while I was writing this, I worried it felt rather repetitive/ho-hum! I'm glad to hear it's worthwhile. :-)

Yay! They overcame their problem! With communication! Or rather, John felt squirmy and helpless and Rodney guessed what the issue was. But that's like communication for them.
