The fact that it took me awhile to figure out how to understand and read this story just added to the wonderful glow that emanates from this. It is truly a wonder. What an amazing way to look at life and to reflect on the gains and losses that make up one's unique existence. Thank you for this.

Thank you! In Time's Arrow, Martin Amis used the idea profoundly and poignantly; a large part of the book concerns the Holocaust. I felt a little trivial using the same concept for a much calmer life. I'm glad you thought it was worthwhile!

I read the original story first, and it left me thinking that remixing it was a damn tall order. And then I read your remix, and it blew me away. The way you executed the concept of going backwards in chronology is amazing--how you turned upside down all these phrases we use every day without thinking (growing young, erasing signatures, etc., and especially the idea of children leaving their parents forever.) I love how you connected the two stories with just one detail: the hole in the wall, and yet they seem to perfectly complement each other.

This is one of the best, most original remixes I have read.

And speaking of the lotrips_remix, I've been thinking of signing up, because I like very much the concept for the challenge, and now after reading your story I'm even more excited about doing it. (But I'm also more apprehensive about measuring up to all the other writers, lol.)

I'd urge anyone with a yen to try it to sign up for lotrips_remix, and fandom_mashup as well. These kinds of challenges are really inspiring because you don't start from a blank slate-- you have material to start with. Yet they're flexible enough that you can take things in your own direction.

I'm really pleased you liked this story, it's probably one of my favorite things I've written. Thank you!
