At home, politics is a matter of apathy for me. I didn't even get to vote in the last election as my constituency was a walkover, as were several others. In the first election I could vote in, it was a choice between a loudmouth joker and the incumbent party. Well ( Read more... )

I grew up thinking that everybody took vacations that were called "March on Washington" for this, that, or the other purpose. My parents were deeply engaged with and involved in the civil rights activities of the 60's and 70's -- from the grand and sweeping (legislative) to the every day (unfair real estate practices). It's meaningful to think that in my middle age (45) so much has shifted.

Not a done deal, by any stretch of anyone's imagination (I hope!), but a major milemarker.

Now, if he would only see sense regarding the futility of "Star Wars Technology" and come to understand that "separate but equal" doesn't work for queers any better than it did for blacks and whites...

Exactly! I was appalled actually that blacks were more inclined to support Prop 8. Isn't this just like the miscegenation laws? Why can't people who love each other marry, regardless of their race, nationality or gender?

There's still so much to do, but it's moving. One step at a time. Yes, you can!
