My new theory (that I really should research):

You know how people on psychiatric medications complain about how they feel groggy and can't think properly, etc., etc.?  And you know how if you take a test in the same room as you studied you will remember more associations?  Same with mind-state: drunk encoding means better retrieval when drunk.  ( Read more... )

Interesting. Isn't depressed/optimistic more of a spectrum than an either or? Couldn't there be possibly infinite combination of emotion/retrieved information?

Good point- I think I tend to notice it when it moves to the ends of the spectrum. And I can be a pretty polar person. So yeah I should try to pay attention to the middling emotions.

First paragraph makes sense to me, and also seems to apply with other brain-body-chemistry-altering treatments like hormone therapies and significant nutritional changes. On the second paragraph, i don't know about the dichotomy issue. I've had more of spiraling and cyclical types of experiences. Maybe all in how we interpret ourselves.

I'm continually amazed at finding so many things circle back on themselves or spiral around. Whatever "things" are.
