End of Ramadan

Oct 24, 2006 08:27

As doctor was telling me, technically the americans should be celebrating today (since it is after 1am) instead of yesterday (23rd). Because the end of Ramadan is just now being celebrated in the middle east... whatever, not my religion... just means I had Monday off ( Read more... )

I've been lucky enough not to have received one of those bites from work. When I was around 4 our neighboors Cocker Spaniel had puppies and I reached in the doghouse to pet one.... big mistake. Mama dog bit me around my thumb pretty bad (and we were going to the fair too :( lol), thank goodness I was small and can't really remember that pain. At work I mostly get skin scrapes and bruising. I try to stay away from any aggresive dogs now, and with the smaller dogs (like Chihuahuas) I sometimes ask the owner if it bites, those small things will bite you quicker than a Rott or Pitty.

I've never been bit/scratched by a cat or dog, so I have it easy, lol:
*rabbit bite
*rabbit scratch

But usually bunny bites are only nips. Scratches "sting" and bites "pinch," so I think bites are a sharper kind of pain. One thing I do know: I would rather be bit by a dog than a cat! Cat mouths are filthy and can cause a lot of damage! :-P

Just hope you never have to break up a fight! That was one of the first real bites I had gotten was breaking up a fight between Pep and Gae, Pep got me right in that fleshy part between your thumb and forefinger.
Petey's bitten me twice and so has Rew. One of those was from a fight too... well maybe 2, Rew may have thought he was fighting the slinky....

The real bites burn. One of the bites Petey gave me almost made me cry the pain lasted so long. Still prefer them over the others though, lol.

Yeah, cat mouths are filthy. Anytime we (me & Shawn) get bit Doc gives us Amoxicillin to take to prevent any infection. I've only gotten one cat bite from work, but it was right on my wrist.... thanks to the owner that failed to tell us that they normally sedate the cat to work on it...

Sounds like you guys have been busy with all that laundry and cage cleanery. I have some Valerian Root tea that works awesome to help me relax and I always take a fat snoooooooze when I drink it. I hope it works for you too.

It definately helped my muscle pain. It helped me sleep a little (it had a lot to work against last night ;-] ).
The Kava Kava helps, but leaves a little pain, not a lot. If the Kava Kava doesn't relieve the pain I'm feeling right now (just took one) by the time I get ready for work I'll take a few Valerian. I just don't want it to make me all tired and drowsy. Even though I have ways of preventing that....
Yes, I know, they're bad mmmkay. lol.

I need to get some non tablet Kava Kava and try that. Apparently if you drink it (mix the kava kava with a drink) it numbs your mouth and throat like cocaine does. It also mimics drinking alcohol, without any of the side effects. It gives you the relaxed, euphoric happiness people drink to get. That's what I read in my research. Ah, but preggies can't use it :P

So far still pain, looks like the Valerian may be coming to the rescue... its got a funky smell but dang it works, lol.

Have you looked into doing stretching exercises for your back? I, too, suffer with chronic lower back pain and have found that some simple stretching exercises help. I know that when I don't do them, my back starts hurting again.

Another suggestion is to get one of those "body pillows" to sleep with. Sleeping with the pillow between your knees helps to relieve tension on your spine.

Stretching probably would help but I'm lazy, lol. I can't even remember to do yoga or meditate on a regular basis. My coworker offered to take a yoga class with me for my back (I really really want to take a yoga class). I'll check out the link this evening when I get home from work, right now I need to make an effort to do something around the apt... I've been in the same spot since 7 this morning, lol. (I don't think this futon is helping my back much either, nor the bed... need new furniture ( ... )

If you can get a new bed it would definately help. When I first moved in with Pat, we had a futon. Talk about PAIN. We eventually bought a good bed and instantly started sleeping better and with no back pain. Of course, now that I am considerably older the back pain is not related to the bed.

The stretching exercises won't take a considerable amount of time and I really think they will help.

Heh, yeah, we've had this bed for 7 years now, and its been through a lot. On my side of the bed the wood on the box spring is literally split from not having a proper bed frame... heh, oops. If I didn't insist on flopping on the bed it would probably be ok, but I must flop.

The stupid futon was Shawns idea "in case someone ever wanted to stay over", lmao. That's happened three times in 4 years. He now admits his defeat (and Gaelyns danger, the welds underneath are breaking) and has agreed we need a new couch. Now we need the money for it and he needs to stop thinking we can fit a couch and loveseat in here, juedo loco, we'd have to jump over them to sit, not what I'd call a 'good fit'.

I'll try out the stretches later, maybe Shawn'll do 'em too, or at least help me bend until I can on my own again, lol.

Thanks again :)

Let's see... I'd say:

Dog bite
Cat bite
Rabbit bite
Cat scratch
Rabbit scratch
Dog scratch

I've been bitten by one dog when I worked at a kennel.... OUCH, and so surprising too. Cat and rabbit bites I can usually see coming, and try to minimize damage. Scratches in general can't do as much damage as a bite (unless they get your eye or something).

I don't know much about natural remedies, but I have more faith in them than some people. I guess the worry is that, if it is a serious problem, you don't want to risk doing more harm by letting it go without getting some medical attention. Good luck though!
