Oh, the things one finds when one is procrastinating and also trying to decide which CSA to join: (Organic) Store Wars. Obi Wan Cannoli and Cuke Skywalker... oh goodness.

For the record, we're going with Terra Firma Farm, mostly because they have a really cute (and apparently also quite handy) mascot. I wrote quite a bit more about CSAs and why I ( Read more... )

My roommate and I can FINALLY do a CSA this summer--there is one picking up in our town, walking distance. Most of the pickup spots/times before were inconvenient for us (read: require a car or 2 hours on the T). But now there is one picking up at the local bakery! Bread and veggies (and almond croissants and cookies) for all!!
I'm excited for June--CSA, farmer's market (eggs, local meat, etc.)--exciting!!

Yay! I'm hoping that having our fruits and veggies taken care of will let us pay more attention to eating local meat and dairy... I'm not really good about that right now (it's so much cheaper to get giant packs of chicken breasts at the store). Eating local bread/pastries has never been a problem for me, though. ;)

PS - I don't remember whether I ever thanked you for reading my outside, but THANK YOU! The comments were really awesome. I recall at one point saying I'd send you some baked goodies to compensate you for the jealousy of my new kitchen, so I should DEFINITELY send you some for your proofreading time. Any requests? (PPS, I need your address.)

I get big packs of chicken from the small grocery store--I feel a little better about that, and it is actually cheaper!
I'm glad I could help with the proposal--it's in a week, right? Good luck! I'll e-mail you my address, but you can surprise me with what you send :)

Oh, I think one of my other LJ friends gets stuff delivered from Terra Firma Farm (she lives in Oakland, too). She was trying to help me find one here that delivers, too, but neither of us have found one. Just the Farmers Mkt will have to do, and I am so lazy about going. Bay Area is really good for that, though. Just one more reason for me to miss living there.

We started getting the "Organic Express" box (which has an LA location too, but I don't know how far away from the city they deliver) which is good, but they're a little more expensive and they "supplement" with a lot of non-local organic. Which isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but given that we live right smack in the middle of some really rich farmland I feel like we should eat as locally as possible. I'm also too lazy to go to the farmers market and pick through the produce there, which is half the reason that I want a CSA box.
