a few thoughts about tonight's episode, thoughts during the show and thoughts after letting it sink in
During the show:
- LOL Claire and Hiro trying to talk to each other
- Hiro and Claire are really funny together, trying to talk over each other...gonna be honest, I had NO idea Hayden had that kind of comedic timing. I like this Claire, she's a lot less whiny in the past.
- Sylar's bloody hands...can't watch CANNOT WATCH
- omg sob the way he said goodbye, ugh I hate this, they were in love WHY
- HE BURNED HER BODY WITH HER OWN POWER! I'm sorry but that's fucked
- s;dfj;lsdkjf;lsdk I cannot take this, like seriously? He's crying? SOB
- LMAO @ Claire changing her own diaper.
- They got Hayden a better wig...
...and gave the old one to Ashley
- *eyebrow lift* "GOT ME!" That should not have been hot...
- "cake!" WTF
- I want Gabriel back :[
- Hiro and his mother omg MORE TEARS! :[ This scene is amazing.
- "Hmm...it does tingle" ldfkjsdlkfj HE JUST KILLED THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE
(ok note? On second watch...this is fucking hilarious :[)
...ok clearly I'm too distracted by wtf Elle is seriously dead, to really mention to much about this episode as a whole. This damn show has broken by brain.
After the show:
After the show, after talking to people and letting the anger and shock wear off I think I've reached and understanding between myself and the show. Their story was a love story, a tragic love story, but a love story none the less, even in her death, you can see it in his eyes, he didn't suddenly stop caring about her, he still loved her, and if you can't see it in his eyes, the fact that he said goodbye and burned her body tells you that. He has never done anything with his victims, other than leave them for the vultures, so to speak.
They never would have been able to be what they wanted. I think in finding out that he wasn't a Petrelli, that's what stopped that particular future from being possible, because in that future, Peter was Uncle Peter. Granted Sylar didn't know about this future, but finding out he wasn't a Petrelli changes whatever thoughts in his head that lead to the future we saw. It breaks my heart but its true, they never could have had it, and he knew that, that's why he killed her. He didn't want to but I think in a sick way, it was his equivalent of pulling the plug. His reaction after he slices into her head, watching it again, its like it took every ounce of strength that he had, he didn't want to do it, but things were falling apart left and right, and her life would have never been something she enjoyed. The pregnancy most likely would have come in to play, but that doesn't mean it would have gone the way we saw. The more I think abut it, the more I realize just how much that piece of information came into play.
Everything changed, and now he feels even more betrayed than before, and really by Angela and Arthur lying to him (or Arthur at the least, we really don't know about Angela still), it was like he had the same reaction we all did. Things were building up and looking good in his life, he was in love and he truly believe he could be happy, but then it all got ripped away from him, everything he believed (The first time he trusted anyone in a LONG time mind you) was a lie. I think, in killing her, he killed the most important part of himself, but believe it or not, I think it was an act of love, the way I see it, he took on the burden of living life without a soul (more or less), and as I said before it was his version of pulling the plug. Elle never would have been happy, I think life for her would have been more tortuous than death, and I think, deep down, she knew that. She was scared to die, yes, who wouldn't be, but that's why she didn't fight it, deep down she didn't have the strength to fight for her life anymore. Clearly the last person she had in her life had turned on her, what did she have to fight for? NOTHING, she had absolutely nothing worth fighting for at that point, she might have been feisty, but he was also, as he said, damaged, and you have to have something driving you, she didn't.
As for the burning of the body, he says good by to her, he's clearly heartbroken over it, and one can only guess he spent the entire night, until the sun rose, thinking about what he had done. He knew it was for the best, but that didn't make it hurt any less. As a few people have pointed out, they are the epitome of a Shakespearian Tragedy (albeit not written nearly as well), heartbreakingly, mind numbingly sad, but beautiful. Watching the burning body scene multiple times now, I'm seeing it for the beauty that it is, and not just in sight, but in emotion. You feel it in the flames that are reflected in his glassy eyes, in the way he touches her shoulder, that one last bit of contact to someone who touched his life the way no one else ever had, and most likely ever will again, and to the sound in his voice when he says goodbye to her. He showed her body the respect that he believed she deserved as someone he loved.
Do I think this was the way it had to be? No, I don't. I still believe she should have had a better exit. Am I still disappointed at the way things went down, including her going at Sylar's hand? Yes, I am. I in no way accept this 100%, but given what they had done this season and what they had done to the characters, I can see and understand where it comes from and why it COULD make sense.
I'm not the best at typing out my thoughts and reasonings, but I did my best. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, just showing you the point of view I came to when I finally managed to calm down and my anger subsided.
