Ok, fantasy novels can TOTALLY be the best-written things ever. Neil Gaiman. Terry Pratchett. Robin McKinley. Hell, even George R R Martin's pretty damn good. And don't get me started on Stephanie Meyer.
Oh, I agree, I think they're marvelous most of the time; I'm just saying that a lot of people get snooty about them and deny their 'literary worth'. That's really just a stereotype though, so. You don't have to try to convince me, I'm on your side in this. :]
I cannot wait to read "Unseen Academicals," his new one.
Speaking of fantasy, I found a signed, first-edition copy of Neil Gaiman's "Anansi Boys" marked $3.75 at the library's book sale today, and instead of taking it and running, I mistakenly asked if the price was correct, and the unfortunately knowledgeable volunteer was like, "Oh no! That can't be right! It should be much higher. I'll have someone fix that. Thanks for catching that mistake!" And then she carried it awaaaaaaayyyyyy. D:
I'm starting my trek through the marvelous Discworld series now, so...I've a while until I'm caught up enough to worry about new books. XD
AUGH you should've run with it! D: lol I still am a little annoyed at myself for not "losing" the autographed copy of the first Artemis Fowl book I checked out back in our old library in Illinois...it was in PRISTINE condition, too, and you KNOW it was just gonna get shredded in a few months/years by all the little teenybopper hands... ;~;
If you continue to never touch Twilight, then you are a wiser person than I. I hated it thoroughly, but...couldn't look away. It was a literary trainwreck, and I could honestly feel my IQ dropping as I read it. So yeah, DON'T DO IT. 8|
It was more like, it SNAPPED CLOSED ON MY FACE and although I struggled to get away/put it down, I couldn't. D: And no, I HATED the "romance". It really just was the badness--I had to see wtf that crazy beyotch would come up with next. And thoroughly loathed every minute of it.
Honestly, I read that...and sort of slowly lowered the book, thinking, is this guy really serious? But I hadn't anything else to read, so I struggled onwards for a while.
Good Omens is EXCELLENT, OMG. It is everything Wizard's First Rule is not, and I recommend it SO highly, oh man, YES good book. I want a copy of my own now.
