Well, not much has been going on. I've been catching up on my reading though, ever since I saw this list:
http://www.librarything.com/tag/unread&more=1  (unread books meme)

Long ago and far away (2 or 3 weeks ago), I was going to post up the books *I'd* read off this list, but got demoralized because:
1.) The site was repeatedly down RIGHT when I was ( Read more... )

rl, books, thoughts

And I forgot to mention- what on Earth was wrong with Carrie? There was such a big deal made over how sickly she was in TLW and LTOTP, but nothing ever came of it. And if you read the biographies, she and Laura were the ones who lived the longest out of all their siblings.

Oh, and that was supposed to be "What is there to censor in Black Beauty"?

Oh, I figured out the censored question. ;D

You know, I completely forgot about that mention with Carrie! I always thought maybe they were overprotective, and maybe that's what it was, or maybe she had colic more often as a kid. Huh - or maybe she wasn't doing as well as the others with the lack of food? (Speaking of which, I still can't believe how much they glossed over the starvation in TLW!)

Yeah, but this was after the winter, and it wasn't just colic- my cousin Evan had that, and he's fine now- it was actual fainting fits, and I didn't get what on Earth was wrong with her. It just sort of seemed to come and go, mostly around Evil Miss. Wilder.

Wheeeee!! Books!!! i remember a long time ago i tried reading Little House on the Prairie series and went 'gah...'and stopped reading them.
Watership down book: decent
Watership down movie: batshit crazy; ah, those delightful 60's acid movies.

If you want books to read i got tons for you!
(i've never read the Portrait of Dorian Grey but always wanted to, let me know how it is^_^)

If you like fantasy here:

The dragonbone chair by tad williams
(three books to the series)

Howls moving castle and the sequel
Castle in the air by Diana Wynne Jones (though i think you probably are aware of these)

The Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters
(and if you get into this series there are TONS and TONS of things written by her)

er, one more and i'll leave you alone

Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs (if you like classics its AWESOME, right up there with Sherlock Holmes)

i love it when i find new books to read^^ oh! go read Dracula too! ok ok i'll stop.

Wow - the little house books kind of latched onto me and wouldn't let go! I think it was because I liked Laura so much!

Pretty much how I felt overall about Watership Down. The movie was just so crazy it was good - can you believe there's a series that came out in '99, too? (Though the newest version of the movie is absolutely dreadful, I've heard, big surprise)

YES! There are never too many book rec's! ^_^

Ooooo *goes to look up*

Hmmmm....if I had to rec some more fantasy off the top of my head from my favorites, LotR is probably first, but both the (short, one has 2 books and the Wolf ones have 3) series by Alice Borchardt are always at the top. I see the Elizabeth Peters are mystery (yum!), so I would definitely have to recommend the Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child books. They write them together, and they are absolutely FABULOUS! Honestly, you'd better start them on a weekend, because they are impossibly to put down. And I dare you not to love Aloysius Pendergast! ;D

YOu have been busy! I remember reading Flicka and Thunderhead. I can't remember if I read the third one of not. That was long before the days of the internet, and doesn't seem like I could find it - or was the third movie the last part of the second book? I don't remember... I haven't even attempted to watch the remake. I'll always love the old one with Rodney McDowell. I just couldn't imagine it being the same with the main human being a girl ( ... )

Heh - I definitely went through one of my famed nostalgia kicks! ;D
I think at one point I had the third one, but maybe it's in that magic box we've been hunting for. I haven't seen the old version - looks like I'll have to check that out!

Nice! I know I read most of the Black Stallion ones, but I don't think I ever caught up with the whole series (there were SO MANY!). Heh - I read some Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys, but see the first problem. I wish I could remember when I started wandering around Mom's giant s/f, fantasy, and fiction book collection...

Oh yes, I tagged Howl on my List of Books I Need RIGHT NOW. It was just fabulous beyond words - amazingly, I watched the movie after too, and like Studio Ghibli's usually are, it wasn't that it felt *bad* because they'd left so much out, it just felt like a different telling of an awesome tale instead. I can't wait to hear how you like the second quasi-sequel! I've really got to get some more of her books! I can feel her nearly taking the spot in my heart She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named ( ... )
