Hi, guyz! Yea, I've been hiding and playing hikikomori as of late. Not too much has gone on, though I have watched lots n' lots of movies, so I decided to share some brief thought on a few.
Firstly though, like everyone else in the known universe, I must say I was actually quite unhappy upon hearing of Heath Ledger's death. Though I refuse to admit

It really irked me that while Hollywood and its actors are perfectly willing to show needless gore and high body counts in the name of "good" drama - they suddenly become squeamish when it comes to allowing their perfect, heroic screen alter egos lose to the bad guys. I so agree with the idea of actor arrogance.
The thing that made the book (Hannibal) bearable was the way it turned all conventions on their asses. It was a naughty pleasure - a kind of Hannibal through the eyes of Harlequin romance. It worked because it finally humanized both leads by giving each a vulnerability you could believe. I enjoyed the way it was mostly unsympathetic characters who got their due. In the movie ending, they had to chicken out and make Starling into Wonder Woman who can't be tainted and Hannibal into a wuss.
(Hmm sounds like movie Hermione and Harry)

I have to admit, I saw 3:10 to Yuma at the theatre and enjoyed it. Then again, I'm older so I remember the days before everything was action, gore, or sex. ;)
I loved Stardust. I saw it at the movies when I was home with my mom. I really enjoyed it, and should get the DVD. I should get the book and read it as well - thanks for reminding me.
I didn't get a chance to see Spiderman 3 or the last Die Hard at the movies, but I told my brother to get them for me for Christmas, which he did. I need to just sit down and watch them - shouldn't be hard because there certainly isn't anything to watch on television these days - even with digital cable and 6 HBOs, and I don't know how many STARZ and Encore channels.

I just wanted to tell you something you'll no doubt find funny. It's ironic how the fates laugh at us... Do you remember the debates we used to have about politics, and the way I scorned your libertarianism? And how, in spite of that, we had fun arguing and agreed on many things? Recently, I discovered, and finally had the honesty to admit to myself, what a closet libertarian I've always been! I've been lying to myself, and to everyone else, for far too long. I was a rebel as a kid; I was the kind of kid who did things just because someone - anyone - had dared to forbid it, thus taking the choice and freedom away from me. Yes, I remember thinking that when I was six. And I never lost that attitude, though I learned not to express it. I secretly hated (and still hate) every teacher I ever had, because teachers consider themselves authority and for some reason everyone believes that gives them the right to ( ... )

YES! This is probably the first thing that made me LOL all day! Now for a real kicker - perhaps it's because we have Fox news on over here a lot of the time, but though I'm Libertarian, I've been beginning to develop these Conservative leanings. Maybe it's the news leaking into my brain or perhaps my cynicism levels have gone up by about 80%, but ever since I've moved back home, I'm beginning to see the real folly and malice behind the Liberal party. But either way, here's a celebratory macro!:
