California Dreamin'

I've been obsessed the last few days planning a two-week road trip to California in June (the Z4's last hurrah before it gets sold). I could play around in MapPoint all day long (and more or less did this weekend) trying to design an optimal path through the state that maximizes all the things we want to see ( Read more... )

we only went to SF but one of my highlights on the way down was the coastal roads of Oregon. I really enjoyed it.

In order to maximize our time in CA, the only parts of Oregon we'll likely see on this trip are those visible from I-5 :). The current plan does, however, include most of the CA coast between the Oregon border and LA.

Monterrey.

It's my favorite place in CA. The aquarium is possibly the best in the country. (So sayeth the House family, at least.) It puts our aquarium to shame, even with all the renovations. Nearby is 17-Mile Drive, along which you can see the Lone Cypress. It's my favorite tree in all the world.

Personally, I didn't like San Diego and I didn't like it a lot. But everyone else who does actually like the place recommends going to La Jolla if you're there. To each his own.

We didn't do much in L.A. Accidentally strolled past the tar pits, which was kind of cool. I don't think I would have made that a final destination, though.

Oakland's side of the bay isn't all that exciting. San Fran is kind of hokey, in my opinion. Marin Country is beautiful, though. Muir Woods is incredibly peaceful and one of my favorite places to go in CA.

My mom thought highly of Sequoia Nat'l Park and Yosemite. If we ever head back to southern CA, I'd like to go to Joshua Tree.

Monterey (incl. the Aquarium), Yosemite and Joshua Tree are definitely on the list. Thanks for reminding me of the tar pits - that should go on the list too.

The Lone Cypress looks neat.

I think we'll be skipping San Diego in favor of spending more time in LA.

And to demonstrate how unobservant I can be, I just now realized that your comment's userpic is the Lone Cypress. Duhr.
