The Whisper of a Long Forgotten Dream

K/S poetry! Because nothing pulls my heartstrings more than pining TOS Kirk :( ... :)
Title: The Whisper of a Long Forgotten Dream
Warnings: major character death
Summary: Sometimes, Kirk dreams of him

“Let me help you,” he had said.
Jim remembers because he’d said it oftentimes before;
Every day a Let Me Help You.
And this time was no different.
Except it was. This time it was
I love you (not so different then).
“Let me help you,” he said again.
In a voice that brooked no argument
“Let me help.” A hand pressed to the wound
Bleeding in Jim's chest, aching as he lay there
Immobile, dying, broken.
“Yes,” he said,
Caught Spock's hand in his.

And when he woke, it was to that phantom pain
The long familiar heartache.
“Let me help you,” Jim had said,
Once, so long ago.
Said it and had meant it, every word of Let Me Help.
What is his life to this thing
That pulses between them, beautiful and alive?
Without Spock, without his mind
Without this thing that binds them,
Jim is nothing. But this simple feeling-
(Spock had said it once, more than words can say)
It is him. It has always been Spock.
His answer lies forgotten somewhere in Jim's mind
(not forgotten never forgotten but forced to not-remember it hurts to much to think of)
“Let me help you,” Jim had said, but (damn him)
“You cannot.”

minific, oops your english major's showing, the product of my procrastination, bad poetry!, aaaaangst d:
