It all went off without a hitch. Sammy didn't know a thing, so couldn't blab to Dad. Marla had dropped him off a block away from home, so there was no way Dad could have heard the car. No creaking floorboards gave him away as he snuck back into his room.
Dean actually thought he'd gotten away with it until he stepped into his room.
But as always, his father was two steps ahead of him.
Dad looked positively relaxed as he sat on Dean's bed. "Good time tonight?" he asked as he looked up from the book he was studying, deceptively mild.
Totally worth it time, Dean thought, but knew better than to say. He just ignored the question. "So, how many pushups?" he asked, resigned. He'd broken the rules, after all, but whatever, he was sixteen and deserved to have some fun once in a while.
Dad raised an eyebrow. "No, you're not going to do pushups."
Dean sighed. "Ten mile run?" He hated running when he was already tired.
Dad grabbed a notebook and ripped out some pages and shoved a pen at Dean. " 'I will not try to be slick' five thousand times."
Dean stared. "What?" he asked blankly.
"Five thousand times. Don't lose count." Dad closed his book and got up. "I'm going after that poltergeist and I'll be back tonight. You can leave it on the table." He turned at the door and Dean could see the amusement on his face. "Glad you had a good time, son."
