Hermione never considered herself too competitive. Well, not about silly things like games, anyway. She liked being the best at whatever she did, but it was only important when it mattered, things like her schooling and her career. Not a board game.

Still, when her darling new husband beat her for the second time at Monopoly, she found herself feeling almost murderous.

Yes, it was petty. But she didn't care. How was he better than her at Monopoly, a game she and her parents had played every Sunday until she left for Hogwarts, and at least once a week during her holidays? A game she'd just explained to him?

"This game is brilliant!" Ron beamed, oblivious to her less-than-sincere congratulations.

Hermione unclenched her teeth. "I'm glad you're enjoying it."

"Who's this bloke? With the hat?"

"Mr. Monopoly," Hermione answered stiffly.

"That's original," Ron muttered. "Maybe Dumbledore? Or a goblin might work. We'll make Diagon Alley, Hogwarts...the Ministry? Maybe. The pieces would have to move themselves, of course. And on the cards, too. We could do international versions..."

"What are you talking about?"

Ron blinked. "Well, you said there are all sorts of boards? With different streets and such? So I'll show this to George, we'll do a wizard version. This is first-rate, Hermione--well, you know that, don't you? We'd make a killing."

"You can't do that!" Hermione exclaimed in genuine horror, all thoughts of winning and losing driven from her mind.

"What?"

"Well, but--that's infringement!" Hermione sputtered. "You have to get permission from Parker Brothers to make a new board!"

Ron stared at her for a long moment before bursting into laughter. "I love you, Hermione."

She glared at him and began scooping up the pieces.

"No, no, let's play again, come on!" he cajoled.

"I'm done for the night," she said icily.

"Hmph." He began poking through the other board games her parents had given them. "Come on. What's this? Scrabble? How do you play?"

Hermione brightened. She loved Ron dearly, but the man could not spell. She'd win at this one for sure. "It's rather like a crossword puzzle..." she started.
