[Draco's voice is soft, almost distant when he speaks - it's not really that out of character for him to be out of sorts on holidays, particularly as of late.]

Another year here. I've been here...a little over two now. Watched people come and go. Not cared, most of the time.

Life's just an endless sequence of loss and gain, here and in our respective worlds. So you hang on to the good memories and move on.

[So philosophical! And so hypocritical since Desmond can't even move on from what he's seen in his latest dream. Not that Draco would know.]

[very philosophical. Draco's just a little bit sceptical.]

So what do you do about the fact that they can come back at any time? It's not like regular loss, where you can just move on.

Maybe so, but clinging to the hope that they'll come and remember you and not seeing them again or them not remembering you? Not worth the effort, trust me. You better take it as a normal lost.

[He knows all too well about this too]

Who said I was clinging to any hope at all? I've had enough people show up more than once already.

[Shiki's voice was just as soft, something that was a bit unusual from her usual display of energy and peppiness. This just hits a little too close to home.]

You... move forward. That's all you can do.

And when they come back without a single memory of you?

[She couldn't help but give a somewhat bitter sounding laugh at that.]

... I've had that happened to me so many times now and I still don't know how to deal with it.

[Sighs.] Sorry. That probably wasn't the answer you were looking for.

Tell me about it. My ex has shown up...three times, I think? [his own laugh sounds just as bitter, if not slightly hysterical.]

Doesn't much matter, I suppose.

You be happy for 'em, I guess.

Even if they're not returning to pleasant places?

I see your problem… ( hah… )

Well, if it were me, I guess I'd find a way to where they were.

I'm not sure that's entirely possible.

Simply because love ones leave our sides, does not mean they leave our thoughts and hearts, Draco. [And as she has lost one of her best friends, her daughter, and even the man that would become her husband in this place, she does have some idea what it feels like to lose someone.]

[girlfriend three times over, boyfriend once, numerous friends, and his mother. Oh, and his father's asleep.]

That doesn't make them any more here.

No, it doesn't. [She knows that when she goes back to her world, everyone will be dead.] But they are here, Draco, in your heart. And there is the chance they will return physically or you to them.

Maybe. Or they'll just stay gone. Or, better yet, they'll come back and not remember a thing about me.

[Draco has no idea just how relevant this bulletin is to become for Inspector Javert. But then again, very few people in Somarium are privy to the increasingly rapid physical deterioration of his wife. It is a horrible secret that only a certain special few have any inkling about at all.

Soon enough it will become undeniable. Soon. Javert snaps a firm, unwavering, cold question.]

Was it beyond your control?

[he is, perhaps a bit taken by surprise by Javert's comment; he banishes the misery that came with the calls to everyone else:] Them leaving? Of course.
