it was 45 degrees in the apt when i got home tonight. listening to sequentia and drinking now in front of a space heater. we have no money and little power but the cheer of or own hearts when we can manage it. there is nothing to do but wait it out until spring. at least music is always beautiful.

That brings me back. I remember an apartment in Albany Park, I think it was, where the milk froze when I left it on the kitchen table one night. There were also mice scampering all over underneath the floorboards. They would run up the outside of the gas hose to the stove at night and lick the stovetop. They drove my cat crazy. The doorbell didn't work, and of course I was on the third floor. I moved out a few months later, when the post office refused to deliver mail there anymore because all the boxes were broken and the landlord wouldn't fix them.

One thing I remember about Chicago was that the heat would only be on 6-11am and 6-11pm. Do they still do that? This was back in the seventies.
