The Trouble With Tobi took me forever to write because every version I wrote didn't work for me until the I wrote the version published. This is a snippet of one of the failed versions that I quite liked and was rather sad that I couldn't work it into the final version.
A/N: Although not stated in the final version, please note that Gaara remains in the dance class even after Madara leaves.
It was in the nature of Red Dawn High to gossip about new additions to staff and student body and Tobi certainly gave them plenty to work with. Merely minutes after his first lesson conversations were sparked all over over the school and everyone had his name on their lips.
"He's a walking fashion crime," Ino told a disinterested Sakura. Although when Sakura saw Tobi walking around the school later it was easy to see where Ino was coming from. The bike shorts and the shirt that looked a poncho and a sack had a baby were simply horrendous.
"My dance teacher is unable to dance," A solemn Gaara told Temari during the drive home. She nodded and tried to avoid ctatching his eyes in the rear view mirror. This wasn't technically true: Tobi could dance, just not particularly well. Five minutes into the class he had busted out his disco moves and displayed a horrifying lack of rhythm.
"He is unable to teach, as well," Gaara added.
"Well, he should fit right in, shouldn't he?" Kankorou said with a snicker. His little brother in a dance class would never fail to amuse him. Their father had forced Gaara into it the minute he'd heard legendary dancer (legendary fairy, if you listened to Kankorou), Madara Uchiha, taught it. It was all an attempt to make Gaara more sociable at work gatherings and possibly get him a girlfriend - Kankorou and Temari had just shaken their heads at that.
"I can't believe some one so lame could be related to someone such a cool guy like you, Sasuke!" Karin giggled as she preened in front of him. Sasuke was inclined to agree but he wasn't going to give her the satisfaction. He'd never get rid of her, then.
