As my rambling post last week said, I went up north for a concert last week. I headed up to Auckland for the
Big Day Out (my first!).
I'd managed to score some cheap flights, so instead of a 12hr bus trip, I got to fly for about an hour to get up to Auckland. But first, I had to get to Wellington airport.
Yes this is Wellington International Airport, only 2 floors and 30ish gates.
I'm kind of glad this wasn't my plane. But this is the size plane I have to catch to university...which is why I tend to bus up to university.
This was my plane for today :)
So once I got on my plane (And managed to somehow get a window seat, even though my boarding pass said otherwise) and got Wellington security in trouble for telling me it was OK to have a lighter on board when it wasn't, it was time to fly.
We Took off towards the south, then turned and flew back past the city, which is how I got this shot. That's the CBD along the waterfront, with the stadium on the right side of the CBD. Not very big, but it's the capital and it's home. And yes I realise this pic is huge, but reducing it takes away the detail.
We flew past Mt. Taranaki (a volcano) on the way up, but the pictures of that are a bit hard to make out. Flew over where I'm going for the field trip next month, looks like I'll get to explore black sand beaches.
The landing into Auckland was a bit bumpy and I went nuts over the volcanoes I could see on the bus trip into town. But once in town, it was time to do some exploring.
And it was this sign that almost convinced me to ditch the concert (I even considered going on a tour before the day long concert)-
Volcanoes seem to be my weakness
But I ditched the idea, because it is likely I'm going on that tour for the field trip next month. So I continued my wandering of Auckland...I saw the Sky Tower and had Wendy's for the first time ever.
Auckland Sky Tower. You can bungee off the top if you want.
And this is taking longer than I planed...I'll leave Part 1 there and post part 2 (The concert and going home) tonight or tomorrow
