I think Jolie goes too far with the quavering country twang based on the first 45 seconds of that song. I could be biased though because I saw Lucinda last night. She was good! Blonde hair now though.
She only had dark hair for a short time. I love her self-titled album. I think I'm going to miss her Portland performance. But I've seen some great shows of hers.
What do you think of the second video, the Feelies? They are playing some this summer on the East Coast. I'm almost tempted to go on a plane to see them again. But since my friends who live in Staten Island probably wouldn't travel to Brooklyn to see them, it seems excessive.
They don't seem interested in playing very far from home. I wonder if one of them has a fear of flying.
I was bummed to miss "drunken angel" ( I assume she played it, I got there a few songs late) , was happy to hear "Joy", I'd heard Betty Lavette (sp?) cover it but didn't know Lucinda wrote it. Lucinda's song writing is a step above a lot of people cause she uses different structures and hrm... lyrical hookie things. Joy is a repetition thing, Changed the Locks is surrealistic..
I had a hard time getting past the poor sound quality of the Feelies video, but I did enjoy the part where they vary the dynamics... noisy then soft. I've heard of 'em but couldn't hum any of their tunes... I'll have to tune in more!
I hope they get out and travel for you. I went to go see the Grateful Dead in Las Vegas which was fun, but that was a few less flying hours.
