Mai-Otome is quite easily my current spaz-out series. Last one was Paradise Kiss. I loved Mai Hime. It started out pretty slowly, but with all the twists and turns, the end was awesome. This series is gearing up to be very similar: fun, great character development spread over a large number of characters but with a good amount of serious drama ( Read more... )

SPOILERS AHEAD!!! IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH, DON'T HIGHLIGHT WHAT'S BELOW!

Except that in the episode where he stays with her overnight in the hut, he says "She's the same age as Nina". This clearly says to me that there's clearly a moral reason for him not to do so. He may have feelings for her as a man does a woman, but still... not only is he her sponsor, but he is significantly older than she is. If you assume two things:
1) Rena *is* her mom. You see a picture of them and he's in his mid-teens while she's about the age of her giving birth to Arika.
2) The scene where he gives Nina the watch. He looks *at least* in his mid-twenties and she's, I believe, nine at the time.

It's pretty screwed up either way. However, the letter from Nagi and such may be driving that force, as he had a feeling about her from the beginning once he saw the sapphire.

I'm waiting on subs for 17. Hopefully this weekend!!!

Oh and when I say significantly older, I mean, based on the things I mentioned, I would put him in his early thirties, max 35. That's a good 15-20 years there which might be less significant were she not 15. That's the key... she's 15 and sworn to celibacy. Heck, not even celebacy, no "female happiness" which I'm assuming means love as well.

If he's not a pedo, he definitely has a serious issue with the "forbidden fruit"... =^.^=
