Amazon.com's phone help is quite lacking. I'm trying to order my new mobile phone through them, but it's giving me the same error that it gave Andrey when he ordered his phone: invalid address. Sadly, the kid was of no help at all. I'm going to try it on my work PC to see if it's a "Safari thing" and if not, call them again from there on my ( Read more... )

I'm planning to get the T-Mobile Sidekick, since I want full internet on my phone. Basically, it's PDA plus phone with the full internet. I checked the phones at Cingular (I have a contract with them now w/ Andrey) but all of their IM was really just fancied up text messaging and you only had access to their sites via the phone. If I wanted to, I could switch up to a Blackberry, but it's out of my price range and not exactly what I wanted. So, Sidekick it is then!

I LOVE the Sidekick but I don't know if I want to switch to T-Mobile. I <3 my roll-over minutes with Cingular. I could switch, because my contract just expired. So, I can swich or upgrade my phone (which by the way is still fucking expensive).

I don't know though, the device itself (Sidekick) is almost worth switching for. My boss has one and lives by it. It makes me drool. At work, we're developing our app to port with it now. Anyway though - most of the higher-end Cingular devices offer basic IM services like AIM, which is all I use anyway. I used to be totally anti-phone and anti-personal device, but ever since I've been at this job I'm pretty into it. I also need to be on top of all the new stuff because apparently now I decide which devices to port to. Weee!

How much is T-Mobile asking for a new plan + sidekick?

T-Mobile has a $29.99 plan w/ 300 anytime minutes and unlimited weekends. You need to get the additional $20 a month for unlimited data. The phone is $299, but there's a $50 instant rebate and a $50 mail in. HOWEVER, Amazon has the phone for free after the MIR (and $199 w/o), if it'll take your damn address. Oh, and the MIR requires a 39.99 plan, which I'm planning to have until I get the rebate, at which time, I'll switch.

I looked into the higher end Cingular devices as well, since it'd be a lot easier for us to just switch to that. However, the cost was significantly higher so I couldn't justify it. I believe that T-Mobile also has rollover minutes, but I'm not 100% sure.
