Day 2: Unannounced initiation tests?

Mar 16, 2008 22:23

Characters: Blade, AU!Luke
Location: Grand Chokmah
Time: Day 2, early afternoonish
Warnings: Some mild cursing from Luke. He is an angry hot-blooded youth, after all.

Either Luke had been left for dead, or this was some sort of unannounced initiation test to be accepted as an official Dark Wing. )

The palace was unexpectedly oppressing. Beautiful, with wide open spaces and serene water sounds, soothing... But it hung with the tension of the unknown, and more importantly, with people who stared at him like he had managed to disappoint them all. Blade just needed a place to go to move and clear his head -- he thought best when he was in motion, and endless movement for the last two years had ingrained it as a habit.

Jade will be annoyed when I get back, he thought, but he trailed up the hill anyway.

At the crest of the hill Blade caught sight of the young man -- like him, wandering far from the road, and like him, apparently without a clear direction, and like him -- red-haired and left-handed and a sword fighter. In fact, it was him, unmistakably. Or rather, one of him, the way he had been years ago...

Blade looked around. No Malkuth patrols in sight. He'd have to approach this other himself... himself.

"Hello, Luke," he said, dry.

Luke saw the other red haired man before he heard him; it was a passing sight at first, as the young teen wandered around lost in an unknown city. At first, he didn't think much of it, until he looked up again and noticed that from this angle, that guy before him looked a lot like himself, and when the stranger spoke, it only confirmed what Luke had already been thinking.

Thoughts rushed into the teenager's mind as he stared, open-mouthed, at his body double for a moment. There were thoughts of how this guy must have been the King of Kimlasca, Luke fon Fabre, and that his parents really weren't kidding when they said the two looked alike, and how did he know my name?! was a thought that rushed through his head more than once.

In the five seconds that it took for Luke to recompose himself, he tried to think of something to say. Something smart, something threatening, something that would let this guy know that Luke Tatlin meant business.

"What the hell are you doing here?!"

So wherever this Luke came from -- and it was almost certainly Luke; Blade could tell, like the other redhead called up all the Luke reactions and emotions, hard to quiet down again -- he already knew about Asch. Good, that would make things... well, easier at first.

Luke's (the other Luke's) reaction had been kind of defensive, so Blade stood up straighter and kept his features expressionless and his hands relaxed at his side -- nowhere near the sword on his back. No need to alarm him further, or make him think that he was in any danger: especially since he knew very well how disturbing it could be to suddenly run into someone who looked exactly like you.

"Well," Blade said calmly, "I came here with Jade to make sure I was in good health. I've been feeling kind of off recently. What about you? Why are you in Malkuth?"

The sight of the "other" Luke relaxing actually had its intended effect, as Luke did loosen up when he saw that his twin-of-sorts apparently didn't mean to hurt him. Of course, this gesture lost any sort of meaning when the other Luke started talking about stuff he didn't know, in a manner that suggested that he was supposed to know, and the frustration came back twofold as Luke started to back away from himself.

"Wait, who's Jade? Why are you saying this is Malkuth?" That couldn't be right - Luke had just escaped from Malkuth with the Dark Wings. They blew up the Ro-whatever Bridge, how did they manage to get him back to the other side ( ... )
