Saphir had thought that, by now, he was used to Peony's eccentricities- which would explain his obvious surprise when he found himself suddenly surrounded by the palace guards after feeling ill on his way to meet with the emperor. Although it was starting to seem as if his first assumptions about this being another horrible attempt to cheer him up might be wrong, as he doubted Peony would have allowed the guards to be as rough as they were being, and normally the guards would have stopped after he kindly (in his opinion, at least- after all, he only insulted their intelligence twice, not more as he usually did) asked them to.
So when the emperor finally decided to show himself, Saphir was, to put it incredibly lightly, not very pleased with the situation.
"Peony! Get your guards away from me!"
((ooc- ...and this is where I again apologize profusely for not responding sooner. >.< Notifs are on now, and the dressing room isn't currently eating my rping... so I should be able to keep up with this now.))
Peony stepped out of his office fully as he spotted Saphir -- in a military uniform, no less -- and he watched, vaguely bemused. He was willing to give his old friend the benefit of the doubt and assume that this was a visitor rather than an escape attempt by the former God-General in the dungeons. And besides, that demand indicated two things: first that Saphir wasn't aware of why he was being handled this way, and second that Saphir wasn't blaming Peony for it nearly as much as usual.
Either it was a visitor or Saphir had gotten much better at lying sometime recently.
He waved at the guards, indicating them to stand aside. "That's probably not necessary," he told them with a grin. "I mean, he's not all that dangerous."
Another step closer, and he reached out to straighten Saphir's uniform. Cheerfully, Peony said, "Sorry about that, Saphir! I guess they decided that the easiest way to deal with two conflicting possibilities was force."
[ooc: \o/ Yay, I'm glad things freed up and I'm glad you tagged~ Now, fun. :3 ]
"You know very well that I could be dangerous if I chose to be, Peony, but that still gives them no reason to treat me like a criminal. You normally don't let them go that far."
Of course, despite Saphir's words at being treated the way he (seemingly randomly) was, he still was mostly relaxed, almost even calm, after the guards released him and he bantered with Peony- he'd gotten used to this, almost painfully so, over the past two years... although normally Peony didn't try to make excuses for the guards, or at the very least came up with plausible excuses, not something seemingly irrelevant.
"And what are you going on about this time? I don't know why you find it so amusing to have your guards harass me, but at the very least you could come up with some sort of logical excuse for their behavior."
That was a funny assertion; Peony allowed, "Well, with fonbots, it's true. But I'm not seeing any here..." He looked around pointedly, as if he could've somehow missed a giant Kaiser Super Something Dist DX stomping down the halls.
The guards weren't going away, hovering and clearly uneasy with this, but Peony continued to ignore them. From his uniform, this Saphir was a colonel. He wondered if Jade found that aggravating, and his lips turned up in a brief smile.
"What makes you think I don't have a logical excuse?" the emperor continued, all innocence. "I have a logical excuse." In the best let me just think of it... tone he remembered from his childhood. This was going to go well, he could tell.
