Vandesdelca smoothed back his damp hair into something more dignified before taking a knife to the celery in front of him. He wasn't as graceful with vegetables as he was with a blade, but it only took a few slices to achieve relatively even boats of celery. As he reached for the bread, he glanced around; the cooks gave him a wide berth and avoided his eyes, so he turned back to the crude makings of a sandwich.
