Go for it! Yarn is great for presents.

Though I would ask for gift certificates, so you don't get duplicates. You've got friends all over, and with no one co-ordinating things, you are likely to get 8 balls of a yarn you need 4 of...

My bigger concern is that I'd end up with 1 ball each of 8 colours. I'm not really into vastly multicoloured things.
