On my first really non-flat project

I'm not sure I really thought about this before I started it, that it could be any different than knitting, say my eight hundredth kerchief or another scarf... the difficulty is really in the techniques, right? Lacework or cables or miters or something. And this pretty little jacket, blessedly, had none of that. Nor did it have seams, thank the ( Read more... )

That is, indeed, insanely cool. I keep reading about short rows and shaping (they can essentially add a horizontal dart to something), but I'd forgotten that yes, increases or decreases would do the same thing.

It's so cute! I love the color. Is the border going to be a different color?

Yeah. Funny thing is, I've done short rows to do circular disclothes. And, now that you mention it, Dragon's winter neckwarmer is all short rows :-)

(I ignore most darts, oddly.)

The border is a lighter sagey green. If we find the rest of the AA batteries, I'll get a picture with some border up tomorrow.

Little bitty things in heavier yarn on size-8 needles go quicker than kerchieves with lacework on size 4 needles :-)

Ignore darts? B'duh? But they are often there to do things like accommodate boobs! *boggles*

*grins* More green. Little leprecaun.

And yeah, bigger needles and bigger yarn go faster. Size 4 needles are tiny!

They are, in sewing (my experience) never there to accommodate *these* boobs. I tend to use princess seams instead (again, in sewing), as darts always, ALWAYS have to be majorly redrafted (American sewing patterns are made for a B-cup woman)

I <3 green. And yes. Little leprechaun indeed!

I may have to do something on size 10 or 11 soon, just for something really fun-bulky.
