I've been doing some reading.

It's called "electricity". That's what I was being... rehabilitated with. It's a muggle imitation of magic, and they say that's what lightning and those little jolts you get when you touch something metal in the winter are from. When it runs through your body it burns the muscles underneath the skin, makes them ( Read more... )

learning from one's mistakes, no luck, breakdown, muggles wtf, philosophical question time, my parents are better than yours, own worst enemy, curse: prison break, good breeding, in denial

I think that an answer to that question you've asked, Draco, depends on what one is expecting to find on the outside.

That sounds completely barbaric.

You raise interesting questions, Mister Malfoy. For myself, the choice would depend on the circumstances of my imprisonment. Traditionally, when a person of my rank is taken prisoner, it is either to be a hostage, or as a prelude to execution. We do not often get to make such choices as to our fates. If it would be to the benefit of my Empire, I would choose a swift death. I would not be a pawn in someone else's designs on my lands and my people. But if it would benefit them more for me to remain alive, but subject to such atrocities as you describe, I would find some way to bear it with as much dignity as I could muster.

It used to be the tradition that royal personages such as yourself, when arrested, were often given the means to a dignified death before their execution.

Why care so much about people who probably don't even care for you?

This is quite true. However, not all such ruffians would be so kind about such things.

I am their Emperor and King. It is my duty to care about them and see that I do the best I can to ensure the smooth running of the country, so that they might get about their business as easily as possible, and thus increase the greatness of the Empire.
