'Thou' is the informal form, 'You' being the formal/plural form. Similar to 'tu/vous', in fact.

Oh is that how you manage the tu/vous thing with work? I never got taught that. Anybody would think the English teach languages with the basic assumption that nobody will ever bother to speak them once they leave school.
