I'm not sure I've ever read--or shall ever read again--a more sublime piece of Georgian pastiche. This draws perfectly upon the rhetoric of anti-Fox campaigners, and particularly upon the sexualisation of his allegiances and policies; it's perfectly matter-of-fact in its treatment of debauchery and corruption, prurient to a point just shy of titillation. It's as though Sheridan sat down in his office after reading Fielding's complete works (and drinking rather too much sherry) and thence penned his most scandalous satire.

Commendable. Truly commendable.

Thank you so much for such extravagant praise! I treasure the idea that Sheridan might have been tempted to write something like this. But I bet he wouldn't have had half as much fun doing so as I did! :)
