Dear Me 2013 - a meme?

Dec 30, 2013 18:23

Saw one of my channels on YouTube do this sort of vlog, and I thought, since I don't vlog, I'd BLOG one here. Feel free to do the same if you wish. It's a letter, of sort, to me in 2014, outlining accomplishments of 2013 and goals of 2014. I thought it was nifty.

Dear Me:
It’s the end of 2013. You’ve accomplished … what have you accomplished this year?
Professionally:

You’re a mentor! You are recognized by people you don’t even know for your work in the classroom. You’re called on by others to give advice on procedure, on lessons, on grading. You were asked to help a new teacher get acclimated to high school. You did that.

You knocked out two classes of your reading endorsement. TWO CLASSES!! You only have one more to go.

You took on a new role as a teacher: CARPD instructor. This wasn’t just a random assignment because you’re certified in CAR-PD, but the AP wanted it to be YOU. It’s been a struggle; but you did it.

You started your master’s degree. This is a huge deal. You’ve been pussyfooting around the idea for a couple of years, but something in you decided this was the year. Sure. There were some financial roadblocks at first, but you worked through those - and in the process took care of getting your student loans out of default - and started taking classes for your Master’s in Educational Leadership. What’s really cool? ALL of the people you asked for a recommendation sent one into the university. ALL of them. Your principal told you he wasn’t ready to see you leave the classroom. Not because he didn’t want you to grow professionally, but because he sees you as that good a teacher. Two classes down in your degree, both with As.

Personally:

You’ve made some new friends. It took a long time after the disaster that was Lake Placed, but you finally got some confidence back, and started talking to people again. It’s served you well. More of the faculty know who you are now, know that you can be called on to assist people. You’re honest. You don’t gossip or get into cliques. People trust you. They respect you for being a stand up woman. A woman of her word.

You’ve been a lifeline for your brother. Able to help him out when the situation called for it - financially, emotionally, mentally. You wondered how you would help when that marriage fell apart and you’ve been a rock, according to him.

Artistically:

It’s been hard this year, creatively speaking. You haven’t done much writing. You did finish one large story and a few shorter ones, but most of your creativity has been sapped by your job.

You’ve read more this year, though!. Finally got around to purchasing and reading The Hobbit. Working your way through the Lord of the Rings - FINALLY. The Hunger Games. Short stories. Non-fiction. You’re not without the tools, when the writing kicks back in.

All in all, 2013 has been fairly good to you. SO what are you going to do in 2014?

Read, on average, 1 book per week.

Buy a house.

Finish the four classes for your masters with As.

Get an ‘effective’ rating on your teacher evaluation. Make way to get Highly effective in 2015.,

Write, on average, 1 story per month. Fanfic is fine. Make at least four of those original stories.

Post something non-fannish at least once a week in your LJ, and something fannish twice a week. It doesn’t have to be much, just enough to keep your journal more active and relevant.

Save 1500 dollars. (considering the amount you spend on fast food, this should not be that difficult.)

Stop eating fast food. (Pizza does not count!)

Limit soda to three drinks a week for the first three months. Ten two for the next six months. Then 1 for the last three months. Kick this habit to the curb, man!

Walk the Jervy trail - the whole thing, at least twice a week. Not back to back days.

Take more pictures. Cell phone, SLR, point and shoot. Just take more photos.

Go to the beach more than once.

Call your grandmother twice a month. TWICE A MONTH or she will cut you out of her will.
