Well, I just want to start off by saying that your eyes have definitely won back their twinkle. Even though you once having lost it is a sure indication you suffered something traumatizing as a child and, therefore, probably spent some time in shock. Suffering that way a so young an age explains your struggles with depression from there on in. But one thing I think you might be able to take comfort in is that we all are suffering your same pain in one way, shape, or form (which is really the message I'm sure your speaker was trying to get across by communicating his issues with it). Yes everyone's past and childhood is different but one thing we all can relate to is that fact that it wasn't, by any stretch of the term, perfect. As a child you see things as perfect and part of growing out of that perspective is realizing how much that isn't true and also how you can do your little part to try and change it.
