Man, I really need to put something up here beyond my icon making results. I also need to take a holiday. =P
Here are the results from three very fun challenges over at
mitchellstills. What's most impressive is that in each one I received the Mod's Choice award, which I can't tell you how much I enjoy.
First up is
Challenge #31. The theme for which was the season ten episode 'Memento Mori'.

This is an episode I really like. It marks a huge milestone in not only Vala's relationship with Daniel, but also with the team. Where they prove to her that they would do all they can to get her back when she gets into trouble. She's part of the team now, she doesn't need to keep running.
The theme I went for with this is colour. Red, yellow, blue and green. The last icon is a slight aberation - which is actually my favourite icon in the set - but I very much like the first two as well. Icon one was just pipped to the Best Colour award by one of
justdreaming88's icons. By one vote in the tie-breaker, which I abstained from because I just can't vote against my icon. =P Damn you, Claire! *shakes fist at you*
At least
rightxhere appreciates the manip work I did on this icon. I think the fact that it's blatantly Sam/Cam helps too. =]
Next was Challenge #32 which uses the season nine episode 'Beachhead' for its inspiration.

I used these icons to test out some new techniques, such as the slight outlining glow effect around Cam in the second icon. Strangely enough, the fifth icon is the first one where I've actually rotated the source image for the purposes of creating a crop. Took me a while. =P I really tried hard to experiment with backgrounds in the first, second and fourth icons as well as with lighting effects in the third and fifth. Overall I learned quite a bit with this one, and the icon I made from the still with the best 'Cam Mitchell, Complete Bad-Ass' pose won the award. =]
Challenge #33 was obviously Dem's way of asking for a bit of Cam fanservice from us since the theme was 'Pantless & Shirtless'.

I tried to use this challenge to work with atmospherics and light and shadow. I also played around with some monochromatic ideas with icon four, cyan tinted greyscales. I really like that icon personally, I think the hand in the shot and the look in his eyes adds a tenderness to it. We can always just forget it's Vala's hand and not Sam's. Though some might still keep the handcuffs. =P
The award winner was icon numero dois, where I played with alpha masked atmospherics. You can blame Dem's choice of still from 'Babylon' if it looks like Cam is doing something he actually isn't.
Voting on
Challenge #34 is underway and I've already handed in my submissions for
Challenge #35 for the episode 'Dominion'. I'm looking forward to seeing the entries for that one. Everyone's 'Plus One' themed icons from #34 are stunning.
One thing I have noticed with the icons in that challenge is that Amanda Tapping probably had to work hard not to get that googly-eyed look whenever she looked straight into Ben's eyes. There are lots of icons with Sam as the Plus One, but very few where she actually looks right at him. The few where she does... well Hell, they're shippy as all get out.
