Hmm... that's too bad... the labor can't cost so much and the materials aren't expensive, especially if they make a cheaper version out of nickel instead of silver (and silver isn't even that expensive). But - oh yeah - they normally put a 400-600% markup on jewelry.
Yeah. Jewelers are acutely aware of the amount of influence shiny things have over people. They ought to know - it's usually what attracts them to the profession in the first place.
It's hard to be a jeweler and try to buy things: you know exactly how much work and materials it took, and you still have to pay the markup. Independent sellers are better, though. They usually charge a flat markup, or something like 150-200%.
