I love premiere season! I love checking out new shows and saying hello again to old ones. I'm tickled pink that Fringe comes back tonight.
+ Last Resort has been at the very top of my to-watch list since the first promo was released, and it surpassed my expectations of oh-my-god-this-show-could-really-be-awesome. Because it was, and assuming it keeps the tension and excitement of the pilot, it could easily become one of my all-time favorite shows. It's all in the execution now. I can easily see the writers falling back on old, time-consuming, plot-stalling tropes that viewers have seen a hundred times. If the keep up the tension, this show will be a treat every week; if they let it sag after the pilot, it'll likely go the way of other possible LOST/24 replacement attempts. Also, Autumn Reeser is adorable.
+ Person of Interest makes me happy, and I love watching Reese, Carter and Fusco all kind of working together - particularly when Carter is calling Reese "John" while Fusco is just like, "the bane of my existence". I also love what they're doing with the Machine, making it almost its own character. The dog, too was a wonderful touch and I really hope we see Bear again. John needs someone to keep him from being lonely while Finch isn't around. And I'm always happy to see Amy Acker.
+ I also stuck around to watch Elementary after Person of Interest, mostly because...curiosity killed the cat, okay? I won't go comparing it to BBC's Sherlock, if only because at this point a) that's like comparing apples and oranges and b) the rest of the internet will be beating that dead horse into the ground for a long while. Here's what I don't get: why is this a Sherlock re-boot other than the obvious reason of recruiting fans of the franchise? (which, if the huge backlash on tumblr is anything to go by, was a bad, bad idea) The only thing I found (and Arthur Conan Doyle fans might disagree with me) even remotely connected to Sherlock was the names of the characters. And since we have Joan Watson...not even that. Seriously, what the heck? They don't live on Baker Street, (or the pilot don't draw any attention to that fact if they do), the show is set in New York, and Watson is a woman. Why is this show Sherlock Holmes? Why couldn't they just have a character who loved Sherlock, who has spent his life training himself how to deduce like the master, and then cast Lucy Liu as his sidekick? They probably could have stuck with the exact same pilot script and done a quick search and replace on the name Sherlock Holmes. They could have still called the show Elementary.
So what shows are you all looking forward to this fall season? Has anyone else checked out Last Resort? Is anyone else baffled by Elementary's very existence?
