[Character Name] Cheshire (Cat)
[Canon] Pandora Hearts
[Point Taken from Canon] From the manga, around Retrace: XX (aka, Chapter 20), between the time Cheshire's leg and arms are hacked off by Xerxes Break and his 'house'/dimension completely falls apart.

[Age] Technically, well over a hundred years, if one takes his overall existence into consideration. Physically, situated somewhere in his late teens. Mentally? Cats are odd about that.
[Gender] Male both physically and mentally.
[Sexual Orientation] Unknown. Completely unknown. Cheshire has yet to show any sexual tendencies, but he might very well in the future. It is a mystery~.

[Eye Color] Red. A vibrant, brilliant red.
[Hair Color] Black with a red haze to it.
[Height] About 5'7". Even though he slouches, people generally assume he's taller until they get up close and realize he really isn't.
[Other] Very, very large hands with very, very big claws. There are also those ears and that tail, but the fact he could crush a grown man's face with his palm is probably a more pressing matter.

Also, his right eye is missing-hair normally covers that fact. More importantly, his left eye is really Xerxes Break's.
[Clothing] [have a picture]

[Background] Once upon a time, long, long ago, Cheshire was his lady Alice's faithful cat. Alice, like most maidens in fairy tales, was a 'princess' locked in a tower. Her keepers were the Baskervilles and her committed crime? She was twins with another Alice-an Alice who also acted as the Will of the Abyss. In order to stave off her loneliness, Cheshire was given to the girl to be her pet and he spent his days with his mistress, locked away. While more often than not he tolerated the girl's affections-the way she carried him wherever she went-there were times her scent shifted. Her being moved, and the cat could sense it. He'd hiss and fret until her scent went back to normal and her hands held him softly. Despite such problems, Cheshire loved Alice as dearly as a cat could a human master. He thought, but for those odd moments she felt wrong, he'd never leave her side.

And then, he did, but it was hardly of his own volition. Vincent Nightray, dread lord, removed the pretty cat's eyes in order to punish Alice and left Cheshire lifeless at his lady's feet. He should have truly died then-his soul should have gone to Heaven or Hell or wherever a cat's belonged after their flame was extinguished. Instead, he was taken in by the Will of the Abyss-the other Alice-and altered-changed, so that he could stay with her as she was Alice and he was her cat.

So, Cheshire's soul remained, but he was no longer his old self. He was turned into a Chain, a demon of the endless, broken dollhouse of the Abyss, but a special sort. The kind that didn't need a Contractor to wave in and out of the dimensions. Bandages covered the gaping holes where his eyes had been, and he kept himself by the Will's side-dancing. Attending tea parties. Playing with the dolls that chattered their teeth and demanded satisfaction.

And then, Kevin Regnard's seal completed itself and the Will was kind enough to take one of his eyes to bestow upon her dear pet. They might have been happy for some time if Vincent hadn't shown his face with his brother in tow-the Tragedy of Sablier had commenced and the cat found himself filled with rage even unable to see his torturer-his killer. The Will's room at that time fell apart under the onslaught of so much filling the Abyss.

So, Alice-the Will-or 'Alice'-or the Will-Cheshire was never sure, his head never clear. Well, she gave him a new place to stay.

What a house it was-an entire universe of mirrors and dolls and some fragment of that man Jack's soul. Its basis was dear Alice's most reviled memories-her death. That day when everything burned. Cheshire was left there to guard it all with the very core turned into a golden bell he wore against his throat, secured with a silk, red ribbon.

For what might have been a decade-a century-a minute-Cheshire worked as the Will's manservant. He aimed to be his lady's knight-to fight for something, someone, with a mindless lack of regret.

Then, Alice-another Alice-was released from the Abyss by some pitiful boy who'd become her Contractor, and Cheshire felt his tail twitch and his chest ache. As the girl-turned-Chain began her journeys with that Oz and that Gilbert, and that-- cringe-- Break, Cheshire watched her. Always watched her until the day when she was in that dirty alley and he appeared before the girl, dragging her and-sadly enough-the previous possessor of his sole eye into his artfully crafted world.

From there, his loyalties were broken and torn; he had to protect those hated past moments for Alice, but he had to destroy her and the blonde boy for the Will-for Alice. Cats aren't too great at picking sides that aren't their own. Unfortunately for kitty, Break had his own motivations for having located the cat and soon they were locked in battle. For all his strength, Cheshire faired rather poorly. Limbs were lost along with his bells.

[Personality] Cheshire is a cat, through-and-through, and he retains many of his previous life's mannerisms even as a Chain, mostly human-formed. He's a fickle thing with barely hidden cowardice; he'll only approach those he knows he can win against easily or could put in a poor position with a few simple distractions laid in their path. When a victory is assured, he'll play with his prey like the average feline would some hapless rodent. His strikes are quick and he doesn't mind exchanging a few words built up from the old adage of purring things having insatiable curiosity. In that way, personal space is completely arbitrary to Cheshire. An opponent is given very little room, but he'll stiff the average man or woman (especially if he decides they're 'irritating') and tentatively climb onto the lap of someone he trusts. It's all up to how Cheshire feels about the individual, and he responds strongly and violently to those who think they can take control over the situation.

Sadly, since Cheshire was once a pleasant thing, since his death, kitty has gone inexplicably mad (which likely comes as a byproduct of spending so much time alone with the Will in some sub-dimension). 'Sense' means nothing to Cheshire-logic has no place in his world. A haze surrounds his thoughts and all that exists is the need to fight or to protect what he's been issued to. He's become insanely attached to his goals and won't see beyond them for anything. His emotions are all instant-instinctual. 'Cheshire hates this-attack it. Kill it.' 'Cheshire loves that-purr. Dig your claws in so it won't leave.' Like the animal he used to be, he takes everything immediately and on the spot, but his reactions have become so extreme and frenzied that the poor thing is nearly an entirely lost cause. Savagery exists within him and while he'll pretend he needs to clean himself or he isn't so, so scared of so much, it doesn't change the fact he's not a being to be trifled with. He's too far-gone to recall all of his limitations.

Still, that boundless loyalty can be a wonderful thing. If Cheshire's attached, he remains attached for convincingly forever. He'll do anything for a master or mistress-going so far as to kill for them if not destroy his owner should they wish for it. He's a willing pawn that finds purpose in guarding or defending, which can be crippling when he's left alone-completely alone. Tenacity is his middle name, but without someone giving him a reason to exist, he is unaware of what to do with himself. Should he not have been killed-should he have been left and Alice had died and he'd never turned into a Chain, he might have just sat there. Forever. Waiting for someone to pick him up and remind him that cats could be fine on their own if only they'd start moving.

On the other hand, all that fear isn't healthy for anyone, whether or not they've lost their mind, and at his core, Cheshire has fear. Heart-wrenching, mind-warping terror that comes from a brutal murder and finding oneself at the losing end of a battle against something he can't define. He adores mirrors and the way they can lie-that they don't always reflect the truth and it's the same of Cheshire; while he may hiss and scratch and claim he'll destroy anyone in his way, there are quite a few people who innately intimidate him and make his movements clumsier. Berserk.

But, at the end of it all, Cheshire is a cat and always will be a cat. Maybe he's taken the form of a human or a Chain or something in-between, but he'll still perch up somewhere high and lick the back of his 'paw' as time passes. As long as he isn't disturbed.

[Specialties/Abilities] Cheshire has a fair amount of strength and speed on his side, but in those areas quite a few characters could still best him. However, as a Chain, his claws are sharp enough to carve through just about anything if he uses them in anger. He also heals at a disturbingly quick rate-though there are more than enough ways to wound the beast and keep him wounded especially if he's attacked by something supernatural in turn. There's also all that floating and jumping, but he is a magic 'cat' and it's relatively to be expected of him. Alternatively, Cheshire can revert to his old form, a small black cat with no impressive abilities other than-oh. I don't know. Being a cat?

In his canon, he's also able to create illusions based on memories and he could teleport, but I believe most of that was due to his alliance with the Will of the Abyss. For the purpose of keeping things neat and tidy, he's no longer able to do such things in Somarium.

[Affection] Cheshire and personal boundaries don't mix. He's the kind of cat that gets all up in your business. That said, if you try to pet him and he doesn't like you-watch out. If you try to-fffff-flirt. Be prepared for him not to understand anything that's going on. Any sort of affection whatsoever can be tested out on Cheshire, but his reactions will vary from slightly put out to purring to 'wtf SCRATCHHISS.'

[Fighting] Any and every character is free to try and take Cheshire down (be as violent as you like). The cat himself is an aggressive individual and the type to start and end fights at a moment's notice, especially if he feels threatened (and he's touched in the head, so a lot can do that). While it's preferred that Cheshire not be killed, it can be talked over.

As far as skill, Cheshire is all brute power and quick movements. He can beat quite a few people, but can be taken down by a similar number.

[Other Permissions] There really isn't much coherent to read and it might actually cause a migraine, but telepaths can certainly try-it's just the punishment might be entirely unbefitting of the 'crime.' As for 4th wall breakage, again. It's the sort of thing where someone can try, but they won't be terribly successful (Cheshire will either get angry and try to eat them, or find them to be irritating and leave without really acknowledging what he's been told).

Pretty much, anything and everything can be done to Cheshire, but more often than not it's simply in one's best interests not to attempt anything at all.

[Other Facts] Cheshire is a very crazy cat.
