Okay, been a long while since I updated on my sari venture. Over all, it's going really well. I get treated very much like a lady by most men, but especially middle eastern ones.
What a neat idea! One of my best friends is from India and she has such an awesome collection of saris and other Indian clothing. I should have asked her to let me try a few on before she moved out of state. :(
Steampunk is awesome, isn't it? So far I'm at the reading-fiction stage (I'm totally sucked into His Dark Materials right now and H. G. Wells is next), but I hope to be able to start putting costumes together soon. :)
I'm a blog-hopper. I found your LJ via someone else's. Random commenter chick awaaay!
Lol, you won't get any complaints from me, I'm a comment whore. I like them any time, any where, and any way I can get 'em. ^___^
If you would like to buy some I got mine at utsavsarees.com. They tend to mess up the measurements some, but they are usually easily fixable and they're inexpensive, for the most part.
Steampunk is my one true love. I've been in love with SP movies and books since early teens and the fashion just naturally followed. I've finished one of my skirts completely now and the other just needs the bustle attached and the zipper sewn on. I can't wait to wear it, it's red satin with a black beaded fringe. What of you? Do you design, sew, or surgically alter clothes, too?
I bookmarked that site the last time I was there. If I could afford to just blow my tax return on frivolous stuff, a fair chunk of it would go there. :)
I don't do any of that stuff with clothes yet, but I mean to learn how to, specifically for the petite plus size range. (It's mine and so many people my size have fuck-all for selection.)
My husband and I love costumes (so far we want a traditional Scottish kilt for him and kilted skirt for me, medieval costumes for both of us [common and noble], a Stargate uniform set, and a Steampunk set). Slowly but surely we're putting our collection together. :)
Yeah, wouldn't it be great if we could all just have so few worries we could spend all our money on clothes and sparklies? *sigh*
I know what you mean about the sizes problem I'm a tall plus hourglass so nothing store bought fits me. If the hips fit, the waist is too big, if the legs aren't too baggy, they're too short.
If you want to get started sewing your own clothes, I suggest a simple gored skirt. The pattern I started with is below.
