ZOMG. You know me, the one who can't hit a deadline to save her life and procrastinates like it's a religious calling?
NOT ANYMORE.
I have turned over a new leaf.
After doing three challenges (SPN Cinema, SPN Reversebang, and SPN-J2-XMas) last fall and running up to/over the deadline on all three, then signing up for Summergen (which I still need to crosspost, oops) because I've been admiring that challenge since forever and stressing out over, yet completely disrespecting, the deadline on THAT, enough was enough.
I knew I would want to do SPN-Reversebang and Xmas again. But I didn't want all the stress of not having written enough yet. No fun. And then the J2 Reversebang claims happened, and I was checking them out from curiosity despite not having signed up, and I just got tickled pink by one where Jared turns into a tiger. Haha, I'd write that, I said to myself.
And then the cool new bang in town, SPN Eldritch Bang, looked so fun I signed up for that, too, with an old fic idea about Sam and Dean becoming immortal demigods. (I also jumped on board the mod team later, full disclosure: still awesome seen from inside!)
But I set conditions. I wanted both stories substantially done by SPN RB claims, so I broke down the minimum wordcounts and number of days and decided I would have to write 250 words per day come hell or high water. To make sure of this, I barred myself from some of my favorite activites until words were done: reading fanfic, reading novels, watching TV or movies, in short: consuming any kind of fiction. And also eating. Because I've been starting to play around with intermittent fasting, where you go at least 16 hours between meals every day. So I allowed my desires for food and reading, basically, to motivate me to write, and it worked really well. Both stories are done (except beta work) and I'm 5k into my SPN RB fic featuring Dean about nine inches tall standing on Sam's desk at Stanford.
The only thing is, I keep signing up for more challenges now. I went a little crazy writing Masquerade fills, even though it was right before my self-imposed SPN RB claims-day deadline. And then I took on a SECOND RB prompt, with Sam and Gadreel. And I decided I had something perfect for the Sam Winchester Big Bang, and another thing that's going to make it into the SPN-J2 Big Bang as soon as sign-ups open in January. Mind you, I'm signed up for SPN-J2-Xmas by now, too.
And then Yuletide crossed my radar. I used to see my whole flist doing Yuletide years ago, and now it's this massive ongoing ecosystem that produces thousands of fics every year. But I never used to even consider signing up because I was so bad at deadlines.
Haha, I signed up this year. Got a great assignment and a
letter written, and everything. There's all this talk of writing extra fics, too, treats and such, but... wandering Fanlore, I found a POLY FIC EXCHANGE. This is so right up my alley! I haven't signed up YET, but... I probably will. Holly Poly's not due till Jan 13th, after everything else is done. Mind you, I'm flying to Thailand on the 7th, so I really should get it in early. But still, the last due date before that is Dec 24th for SPN-J2-Xmas, so I should have time, right?
Sign-ups close when drafts are due for SPN RB, so I'm writing away and if I'm in reasonable shape then, it'll be a go. Wish me luck!
ETA: I did it, I signed up for Holly Polly, and now I'm eyeing the Gencest Bang and Holiday Mixtape - someone stop me this is getting out of hand! LOL, but here's
my list of upcoming dates.
