Hi, Alyon. 103 in Seattle! You must be fainting with the heat. That's astonishing, and wretched for a community not used to it. I remember that area being so mild and cool in the summer. Guess we're having all the cool to ourselves here in northern Minnesota by the lake, where we've been having the coolest summer in .

Go, you, working on the health care debate. Keep us updated!

Yes, we all feel we have survived something monumental here in the old northwest. We are quite smug to have done so. But I work at the Pike Place Market and we get tourists from all over who are not afraid to disabuse us of this notion. We are such wimps!!

Still, 103 is awfully hot, especially to be displaying and selling produce. Do you have to keep spraying everything with water (including yourselves) to keep it from wilting too much? I've been to my sister's in CA when it's that hot and hotter, but it's dry there when it's that hot, which may not be the case in Seattle, with its maritime climate. Hot and humid is much worse than hot and dry. Well, soldier on, old bean -- in the heat and for better health care.

hi Alyon,
Long time no see - welcome back to LJ's little corner of Internetland...

You sound like you've been very busy with important stuff, - healthcare reform can't come too soon for the US really, can it ? It amazes us here in the UK that there isn't a Health Service like we have here, even though ours is struggling, and almost buckling under the strain of too many demands and not enough time or money to give everyone the help they need!!

Seattle sounds very hot as well - we've got nothing but incessant rain here, so I will use my special raining icon to try and cool you down...

Thank you!! It's good to see you. I never ever really let anything go--I'll keep coming back to say hello. I'm just quite happy to see some of the old faces still around.

Yes, our health care system will break us if we don't change it. The fight is hot and heavy as the industry is fighting reform to the tune of 1.4 million dollars a day. Change threatens their profits, but our health care shouldn't be about profits. It's criminal. And, yeah, I've been in the thick of it.
And as many problems as you might have in the UK, at least you have something. So many of us have nothing, and a great many more who do have insurance are underinsured and still are bankrupted when a health crisis hits. Worse, even with insurance they are often denied basic lifesaving care, for deceptive and flimsy reasons. America will eventually crumble if this isn't fixed.

Blah blah blah--I do go on!!!! But it's after midnight so I'll shut my mind and mouth and go to bed!!

It's lovely to see you. Thanks again for stopping in!

Lovely to see you!!!! And I'm glad you are still around. I probably won't ever truly go away.

And like I told Wendy above, many of us would love the problems you have with the NHS. Your problems seem infinitely better than the ones we have. I've collected too many horrible stories---they are too too common. I know people dying who wouldn't be if they had access to health care. We pay much more per person for health care than any other country and yet we are in such terrible shape. It is extremely stressful and America needs to get this fixed.

Glad to see you!!
