I haven't heard of this meme, Alyrthia.

I thought this answer was especially interesting... I have never heard about biting the corner off one's bread before eating it. After you bite a corner off, do you eat it, or do you spit it out (or discard it in some other way)?

I have been noticing on the weather record temps in Washington and Oregon, too (our heat wave seems finally to have abated yesterday; now it's just normally hot). Has that affected your area at all? Perhaps it has only been in the eastern part of the state.

I am sure I told you we lived in Tacoma when I was in the 3rd and 4th grades, a million years ago. (My dad was stationed at McCord AFB, but we lived in a subdivision being built into the woods near a small body of water full of tadpoles and lily pads called Carp Lake.) We thought the weather was great, except that it often was hot enough in the summer (we children thought), making it chilly, sometimes, to go to the beach at Lake Louise.

No, you needn't tag me, Alyon (grin). Anything people in general don't know about me is something I would prefer they didn't! I'm such a blabbermouth, I am sure they all know everything I'm willing to reveal -- as well as a great deal I'd rather were hidden, but haven't been able to keep from creeping out. (like my LotR/Frodo obsession)

Citibyrd, I love the image of PJ in your icon. What shoot or feature or general era does it come from, do you know?

I like it, too! Unfortunately I don't know what the photo is from...all I know is that the icon was made by kathrinchen. :)

Not really knowing anything "personal"about you, I really enjoyed your "confessions"! And a peek into one's eating habits is always interesting. I'm in the middle of reading "The Omnivore's Dilemma". An eye opener for me!

That's the Michael Pollen book, isn't it??? He also wrote Botany of Desire--which I gave to a friend for Christmas a few years ago but have yet to read myself. I've heard him several times on NPR. Botany of Desire was about how plants evolve not just how we might domesticate them, but that they also manipulate us to gain genetic success. Evolution is a two way street!! Very cool stuff. A really, really, good book is "The Food Revolution", by John Robbins (he was heir to the Baskin-Robbins fortune, but totally went a different direction--he doesn't even eat ice cream!). He wrote the best-selling book "Diet for a New America" in the late eighties. It was very popular--a good examination of how our food choices affect the planet. "The Food Revolution" came out about 7 years ago, I would guess. It's really well done. But I do have to confess that it promotes a vegetarian diet, so I don't want to fool you. But it is extremely well researched and easy to read, and of course loaded with lots of footnoted information that most ( ... )
