Preventing Evil

Sep 12, 2005 22:28

First off, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has read my LiveJournal since its founding one year ago this day. Being able to express myself in this fashion has really made a difference to me, as it’s given me a way to directly deal with the issues that I ponder in everyday life. What has helped the most, however, is all ( Read more... )

To help me out with my comment I'm going to turn to some quotes from higher authorities...

"It is a man's own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways."
-Buddha
Only we can control whether or not we ourselves are evil. To prevent evil in the world, we must first prevent it within ourselves. We need to listen to the part of us that tells us to do good in the world. We cannot let our darker side come in. Yes, man is inanely evil. If you don't believe that, go read Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. We all want power and we will do anything to get it; this is where we must learn to control our desire to an extent that we will not hurt anyone else in the process.

"The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it ( ... )

Good vs. Evil: The Everlasting Struggle spruiell September 14 2005, 01:12:28 UTC
I pretty much already stated my piece in the entry. I don't have much more to say on the topic. Man cannot be both good and evil and yet, he cannot be one or the other. It is an eternal paradox. As long as there is good, there will always be evil. Its inevitable. There will be people you meet or come in contact with that simply do not seem to be nice people. I've had that experience many times and can't say that it was my most enjoyable. However, it makes you a better person in the end and you can't argue with that.

So it's been one year. What a year it has been. I've enjoyed reading this LJ almost as much as you've enjoyed writing it. I was glad to help contribute to the subdued festivities. Your opinions are always appreciated and well thought out. Here's to 2,3 or even 4 more years.

hey wuts up. GG on the year's worth of LJ. i havnt been here for all of it but i still like the topics and posts. Neways, personally, i just think humans are a flawed species. And as coleman said, there is evil within us all, no one is without sin, but i think, a great person, is one that tries to be good. No one can be good, but if you try, i think thats as best as you can do. I think that all evil, is from a cause. A person steals becuase they might need it, or becuase they werent taugh it was wrong. A person becomes physical becuase no one taught him to keep to himself, or another person insulted him. I think when someone does a wrong deed, it is mearly a learning experiance, for example you punch someone, but learn that it wasnt good and you dont do it again. Therefore, people who try to be good, begin narrowing the amount of "evil" things they do. But everyone needs to be taught the good things, but the problem is, there is just so much. Every little thing can be considered evil, from pickpocketing, to ripping music(i think ( ... )
