Well, since you are the my the male Indian version of me, I kind of always feel like we are thinking the same thing. You just write about it, and I handle the gossip. I actually had a week like that if you can believe it. Then all of the sudden, things just got perfect. I didn't have to stress, I didn't feel like I had to worry about all that stupid stuff. It just wasn't worth my time to worry about that. So now, I am back to being my witty, optimistic self

I'm goin through of those times right about now as well; not doin so hot in math, and not doin so hot with my ladyfriend.
I do think that "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Llama is an excellent book; the jist of it is essentially the philosophy that pretty much whatever you are worrying about in most cases is essentially trivial - it may cause momentary grief for a while, but you have to realize things will get better, and that if you feel bad and there is something that can be done about it, then try that. If you feel bad and there is nothing to be done, then you have done what you could, and that being in a downward slump is something you should just say "I don't need this, I need to be happy" to.
Obviously it's a lot better explained in the book, which I can lend you next time I come down, but it's a good read, even if youre feeling happy.
