Sherlock might think he's the one totally in control of the situation, but he is just a dumb youngster who doesn't really know his own limits. Not that the older Sherlock is so great at recognising his, either.

I cannot BELIEVE you left it there! Aaaaaagghhh! I hope you are enjoying doing this to your readers! I am helpless to resist this story. I crave this story. I love the spot-on characterization of Sherlock assuming that anyone who leaves information unlocked, or under a poor lock, deserves to have it looked through. That's so wonderfully immature. And I could actually feel it on my own face when Sherlock has to suppress a laugh at Lestrade's squeaking shoes. That is such a real, complex set of details.

I'm kind of glad that Sherlock's observations confirmed Lestrade's instinct rather than point to someone else. They would make a good team if they can just get there.

I think the same! Bickering aside, I believe they work really well together. I think it all comes down to that unlike other policemen, Lestrade probably doesn't take Sherlock's talent as a strike to his ego. That's something that always tickled me about the original character and all of its reincarnations.
