[He moves out of the way so she can see the workspace and where he was scribbling things down.] You know about-- well, no, of course you know. Can you think of a better way than eighteen rolls of aluminium foil to replicate one of the eight adiposey things?

Eighteen? Why-- oh, I see. No, you shouldn't need half so many if you reverse the current and join these bis with a polymeric oscillator-- but I don't suppose I know if this planet's got those. We may be able to synthesise one. ...This is a very impractical system to begin with, isn't it? Who thought this up?

Oh! Of course! An oscillator wouldn't really be easier to get a hold of than eighteen rolls but it would do a sight better, performance-wise. Hmmm... Might be able to synthesise it with something from work and a couple settings on the sonic.

It's less impractical when you actually have access to all the parts you need to make it work. With this much substitution I'm not even sure it'll work, but I haven't got anything else to do.
