Yesterday at college we got back our 'Belbin' team roles. I found out that, both by my responses, and the responses of 6 people who knew me/worked with me that I am a
RESOURCE INVESTIGATOR
Extrovert, enthusiastic, communicative. Explores opportunities. Develops contacts. Over - optimistic.
Loses interest once initial enthusiasm has passed.
Second choice according to me was the
IMPLEMENTER
Disciplined, reliable, conservative and efficient. Turns ideas into practical actions. Somewhat inflexible. Slow to respond to new possibilities.
But it was on this second choice role I fairly wildly disagreed with observers, who thought I was much better at
MONITOR EVALUATOR
Sober, strategic and discerning. Sees all options. Judges accurately. Lacks drive and ability to inspire others.
And finally, both agreed 3rd choice was the
SPECIALIST
Single-minded, self-starting, dedicated. Provides knowledge and skills in rare supply. Contributes only on a narrow front. Dwells on technicalities.
(This is the one our tutor said was a 'bit like a computer geek' :-))
I was really low on any of the leadership/management types. they were in my 'least prefered, do not consider doing these roles' section.
I was moderate on the creative ideas 'plant' and the diligent perfectionist 'completer-finisher'
So it had some interesting careers advice - stick in the field you're in, gaining more knowledge and then get a job which allows networking with other organisations and lots of people contact and chances for exploring new ideas/possibilities etc.
Belbin isn't something you can do on the web for free, like other psychometrics, but organisations have to buy it in.
Has anyone else done Belbin?
