I have just made a complete and utter fool of myself!!!!!

When I received a text message last night from Dave last night on my mobile, saying about his birthday being tonight I was like 'ooh, that's cool. Haven't seen him in a while, it may even be years!'
The last time Dave Broggio and I had talked was when he'd moved back to Bristol and got a job in the council. We'd worked together in the council in one of his uni vacations, and there was an old connection through a friend of a friend also. We'd often met up to go down to the old Duke with a whole group of his mates, who were a bit towny but I thought well it's been a few years so he may have a new group of mates by now :-)

Anyway, in true disorganised fashion, I was running late and wondering if I'd make it to the first pub they'd planned to go to - the Beaufort near Parkway Station. I wondered why he'd picked a pub all the way out there but then several years had passed, he may have not been living in Bishopston any more and maybe he thought having it near a train station would make it easier for those not living in Bristol?

They were meant to be moving on to somewhere else to eat at 7.30 - I'd felt a bit bad about texting him earlier about where that second pub may be, as I hadn't seen him for years. But I just couldn't make it any earlier than that, and I thought well better to see him for part of the evening than none of it.

I got there at 7.15 in the end (I luckily found the place!) only to discover a text on my phone from him saying they'd decided to spend the evening at the Beaufort after all, so that was cool. Just as I walked in I was thinking 'wouldn't it be strange if I bumped into some of my Bradley Stoke friends (David Duffett, dr_midnite Kenworth, katchuri and Nick)' and then almost AS I was thinking that I saw David Duffett from Bradley Stoke.

me: 'Oh hi! Hey...what are you doing there...!tell you what, I've just gotta check whether those guys round the corner aren't the ones I'm meeting tonight...then I'll be right back! good to see you!'
David smiled and generally looked ok.
Then I went round the corner. There was dr_midnite I was like 'hello! Hey how are you doing, there's so many people I know tonight'
dr_midnite 'Well it is David's birthday'
me: (penny still hadn't dropped)(feels upset that I wasn't invited to David Duffett's birthday and looks a little dispondent)
David makes some reference to texting me earlier
I suddenly realised what I've done but...
me: but I got a message from Dave...you're DavID in my phone....what the (still feeling upset that I wasn't invited and thinking conceivably there is a party of people with Dave Broggio round the corner, but the truth dawns surely)
the second thing I say (maybe this was digging me further into the hole!)
"I would have still come even if I realised which Dave it was from!!! In fact, I felt upset that you hadn't invited me! Oh yeah, you're birthday was about this time last year wasn't it?'

Somehow I recovered the situation, and spent most of the evening talking to David Duffett, and to people who'd remembered me in fancy dress as a policewoman at his party last year! He doesn't read lj any more but if you do David, sorry mate and good to see you
