I imagine that by now everyone has seen both of the trailers for Doctor Jones' fourth major outing. Like many, I expect, I was originally a bit upset to discover that the Nazis would be replaced by the Soviets in this movie as Marxists are more laughable than frightening in spite of their rather impressive body count (except for the Khmer Rouge, of ( Read more... )

Intellectual Communists (Sartre, Hobsbawm, Brecht) are funny as hell, and also a little pathetic. But I never saw anything funny in people like Yezhov and Ho Chi Minh and Ramon Mercader. They were SCARY.

I too, am looking forward to Tintin. But I suspect that the Mitts South London chav version is better than anything Spielberg and Jackson can do.

I agree that Brecht could be funny, but for all the right reasons. He also started to see the light near the end as life in the GDR got worse and worse.

I suspect that the Mitts South London chav version is better than anything Spielberg and Jackson can do.

Middlesbrough? Damn, it was the reference to the Boro that threw me into South London.

Still, I should have gotten it right. I only spent months studying the WWII history of the Green Howards, who came from that very area.
