For
sci_fi_shipper Kara dropped down on the grass, still giggling and finally giving up the the water hose and letting herself relax for the first time in what felt like ages (longer, if she was honest with herself).
The warmth of the (fake) sun on her face...she'd never taken something that much for granted before.
She looked to her left, watching as Lee turned his face up to the sun, a smile on his face that she didn't think she'd ever see again.
He didn't know that she was watching him, the way that he breathed in and out, the distant sounds of birds (real birds or recordings? She couldn't be sure). He opened his eyes then, moving his head to glance over at her. She continued to stare back, noting that his smile hadn't faded (she didn't know why she'd been expecting it to).
"Hey," he says.
"Hey," she replies, letting herself smile a little bit too.
"I wanted you to know something," he continues, his face growing serious then, and she held her breath. "I'm really glad you're here."
There was a second where she was speechless...why? But she swallowed her question, looking from Lee's blue eyes to the fake blue skies above her (it was safer there). "Yeah, right." She reached out and poked his ribs, lightening the moment. He responded as expected, poking her back, and they quickly escalated into a short wrestling match that ended with Kara grass staining her dress blues and pinning Lee into the ground.
"Haha!" she crowed, laughing at his face of mock frustration, knowing full well that he'd let her win (with her frakked up knee groaning in protest).
"You can't beat me, Apollo," she told him, laughing down at him.
"Yeah, you got me, Starbuck," he laughed, his voice vibrating against her chest.
Before she knew it, he had his hand laced in her hair, his lips pressed her hers. Kara wasn't sure if she was more surprised that he was actually doing it, or that he'd finally started taking her advice to stop over-thinking. Then she realized that his lips were soft, and that he smelled of grass and water and something that made her feel warm...she let herself sink into it, slowly moving her mouth against his. Kara felt something rise in her chest, an uncurling of something (anticipation?) she hadn't realized she'd been holding back, and with a feeling of relief, she let herself enjoy the feel of this moment.
Because tomorrow they could be dead, blown out of the frakking sky by a cylon or taken out protecting the President from an assassin. Tomorrow, she would come to her senses.
Right now, Lee was kissing her (she was kissing him) in what little they had left in the world.
She was going to make the most of it.
