Fires in Victoria
Like everyone else in Australia I am in shock at the devastation wrought by the fires in Victoria with 108 people dead in our worst ever fire disaster. It seems petty to worry about things like my thesis (I'm in the middle of editing and have been questioning if I'll ever be finished), money worries etc. At least I'm alive and so are my family ( Read more... ) -

I had to laugh earlier today when I was looking at reviews for the movie Twilight and one teenybopper fan said that people shouldn't complain about the movie having loose ends because so did Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring! Moment in history
It's safe to say I haven't been too bothered by US politics in the past, besides a general groan 'Not 4 years of Bush *again*' in 2004. Today was different though. Movie thoughts: Mamma Mia! (2008)
Saw Mamma Mia! yesterday - three cheers for public holidays! The theatre was packed - I wonder how much of that was people trying to get out of the winter chill and into a room with lots of people. Just when I needed a laugh
Peter Pan! I just returned from my daily swim on the beautiful Fijian beach and realised I have not updated this since the sun was actually shining in Melbourne... You would not believe how hard it is being waited on hand and foot and generally lounging around. I hope they bring chocolate!.

Movie thoughts: Unfinished Sky (2007) and Spider Lilies (2007)
I saw the fantastic Australian film Unfinished Sky recently. It's about an Afghani refugee, Tahmeena (Monic Hendricx) who takes refuge at the secluded farm owned by John Waldring (William McInnes) after escaping from sex slavery.
