I am worried my home is about to be home to a ship war.

My wife is so desperate for fic that she's reading John/Lestrade.

She keeps reading me bits.

Having showed her this post: "Not on purpose! It's coming up by accident!" So she says.[Disclaimer: obviously I think shipwars are ridiculous and people can ship what they want and I kind of ( Read more... )

obviously I think shipwars are ridiculous and people can ship what they want and I kind of view the extent to which I OTP in my fandoms and hyperventilate about the ~~mere possibility~~ of alternate pairings to be a moral deficiency. But still. Traitor

Hahaha, WORD to this entire statement. I never think of myself as a person prone to jealousy, and yet if I extrapolate from how I feel about my OTP being paired with other characters...yikes.

Some alternate pairings are harder to contemplate than others, though. Would it be worse, easier, or about the same if they were Sherlock/Lestrade fics?

Sherlock/Lestrade

*claws out own eyes*

I am not entirely certain, but I think I am less able to handle alternate ships to the extent to which they seem to be real..."rivals" for my OTP? Not in the sense of catfight-no-he's-mine, but in the sense that "this is an equally plausible place for these characters to end up that would make them equally happy in the end." So, in fact, Sherlock/Lestrade is just so bloody plausible that I don't even want to know it exists. Ditto for, say, Mulder/Diana, though I clearly have no problem reading/writing Mulder/other, as long as it isn't positioned in a way to conflict with Mulder/Scully.

Hmm, this is interesting. Here you’re actually combining two different factors: 1) the ship is as plausible as your OTP, and 2) the ship is comparable to your OTP. Both definitely influence my shipper feelings as well, but I think, of the two, the latter is the one that provokes my NO feelings more acutely ( ... )
